BUSINESS BRIEFS: QFX back in business

KATHMANDU, Oct 5: QFX Cinemas, which closed down its theaters from Monday following CPN-Maoist´s ban on screening of Hindi movies, resumed operations from Friday. It showed Nepali movies in two theatres in QFX Kumari, one in Jai Nepal and two theatres in QFX Central.



“We resumed our operations from Friday as two new Nepali movies Visa Girl and Letter were released on the day,” said Surendra Thapa, manager of QFX Central, said. [break]



However, of the two theatres opened in QFX Kumari and Central, one each was shut down again as there were no customers at all for the movie Letter, added Thapa. If everything went well, the theatres will start screening Hindi movies from Wednesday.



Mega launches housing reconstruction loan



KATHMANDU
: Mega Bank has launched a new credit product aimed at people and firms affected by the government´s latest road expansion drive. Under this scheme, people, whose houses or business complexes were partially or completely demolished, can obtain house reconstruction loan and Mega SME business rebuilding loan, according to a bank statement.



Under the scheme, dubbed ´Khancho ko Sancho´, clients can obtain credit at interest of 10 percent per annum. [break]



"The loan tenure for the housing reconstruction loan under the term loan facility will be for 20 years without any loan processing fee. The bank also offers moratorium period of 1.5 years under term loan facility for housing reconstruction and personal overdraft facility with attractive features," the statement says.



Similarly, Mega SME business rebuilding loan comes with an interest of 10 percent per annum with tenure ranging from 1-10 years. "No loan processing fees will be charged on these loans," the statement says.



Asian Life raises capital to Rs 457.96m



KATHMANDU
: Asian Life Insurance has raised its paid-up capital to Rs 457.96 million from the previous Rs 360 million. The company raised its capital base by issuing bonus shares worth Rs 97.96 million as per the decision taken during the company´s annual general meeting held around three months ago, says a company statement.



The company has so far earned insurance premium of Rs 3.47 billion of which Rs 1.03 billion was generated in the last fiscal year ended July 15, says the statement.



Maruti Suzuki Omni´s Dashain offer



KATHMANDU
: CG Automobiles -- the authorized distributor of Maruti Suzuki four-wheelers in Nepal -- has announced Dashain -Tihar offer on Omni Van and Omni Cargo. Issuing a press statement on Friday, the company said the scheme includes free insurance and attractive cash discount.

With focus on sustainability as well as corporate citizenship, Coca-Cola gained accolades for its advanced water recovery system 2012, worked to deliver clean water to those in need, expanded its PlantBottle package to more markets, and received high ratings for employee diversity and sound workplace policies for LGBT associates, the statement conlcudes.



Laxmi Group awards top students



KATHMANDU
: Laxmi Group has conferred Laxmi Vidyapadak on top students doing higher studies in colleges affiliated to Pokhara University and Tribhuwan University. The Lxami Vidyapadak was conferred on Sudeep Pokharel of Prithvi Narayan Campus, Ishwori Prasad Subedi and Kopila Adhikari for intermediate, bachelor´s and masters level, respectively. Likewise, Hemant Kumar Saraf of School of Business, affiliated to Pokhara University, also received the award. Laxmi Group, which has interests in confectionary, dairy, plastic and trading houses, has been awarding students with the Vidyapadak for the last 14 years.
