RASUWA, Sept 6: Commercial goods stored in Kerung, China, will be transported to Nepal through the Korala border point after the Bhotekoshi River flood destroyed roads, bridges and other infrastructure connecting the two countries.
The devastating flood, triggered by a landslide and floodwaters flowing through the Lhende Khola into the Bhotekoshi River, swept away roads and government offices on both sides of the Rasuwagadhi border. More than 400 containers of goods stored in warehouses in Kerung have already begun being transported through an alternative road route, according to Musa Transport.
Musa Transport Managing Director Zhang Xueping said that as reconstruction of the infrastructure destroyed by the Bhotekoshi flood and the road linking the area to Kathmandu is expected to take time, efforts are now underway to transport the goods to Nepal via the Korala border point.
Lack of containers stall goods in Kerung
“Major festivals such as Dashain and Tihar are approaching in Nepal, so efforts are being intensified to transport the goods using the shorter road route,” he said.
Meanwhile, several containers were swept away while transporting goods along the Rasuwagadhi–Trishuli road, resulting in loss of property and human lives.
Zhang said his company has been transporting goods manufactured by Chinese companies to Nepal’s border areas on behalf of Nepali traders and businesspeople.
According to Zhang, his ancestors from the Muslim community had travelled from Bagbazar, Kathmandu, to Tibet for trade and business. He said Musa Transport is currently based in Shigatse and operates a business transporting goods to Nepal’s border points.
