KATHMANDU, August 18: The CPN-UML has taken a stand that the Citizenship Act Amendment Bill should be sent to the thematic committee for reconsideration.

In today's meeting, UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai and lawmakers Krishna Bhakta Pokharel and Sher Bahadur Tamang demanded that the citizenship bill be sent to the thematic committee. Otherwise, the UML insists that it will be considered as questioning the institution of the President. The UML argues that sending it back to be reconsidered by the President with a message should not be seen as political.

In the meeting, Chief Whip Bhattarai said, "Let's take it to the committee, and let’s discuss it there. Let the majority pass it, but at least there should be a discussion.''

Similarly, another UML MP Krishna Bhakta Pokharel has suggested that all parties should have a common opinion on the Citizenship Bill. For this, he demanded an all-party meeting.
