KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Nepal got off to a flying start to the Asia qualifiers of the Women's U19 T20 World Cup in the UAE, defeating Thailand by 67 runs in their opening match. Batting first, Nepal posted a total of 102 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Puja Mahato top-scored with 35 runs, while Soni Pakhrin and Simana KC contributed 19 runs each.
In reply, Thailand was bowled out for a mere 35 runs in just 11.4 overs, falling well short of the target. Nepal's bowlers were clinical, with no Thai batswoman managing to reach double-digit figures.

The victory puts Nepal in a good position in the four-team tournament, which also features the UAE, Kuwait, and Thailand. Nepal's next match is against Kuwait on Thursday. The team will also face UAE on October 24, Thailand on October 25, Kuwait on October 27, and UAE again on October 28.
The top team from the tournament will secure a spot in the 2024 Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia.
