Women's U19 T20 World Cup: South Africa defeats Australia to reach final

South Africa Women’s National U-19 Team have entered the final of the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup by defeating strong rivals Australia by five wickets in the semi-final in Kuala Lumpur, on Friday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 31:  South Africa Women’s National U-19 Team have entered the final of the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup by defeating strong rivals Australia by five wickets in the semi-final in Kuala Lumpur, on Friday.


Chasing a modest target of 106 runs set by Australia, South Africa achieved the target in 18.1 overs for the loss of five wickets. Jemma Botha scored 37 and Captain Kayla Reyneke scored 26 runs in their victory.

Hasrat Gill and Lucy Kay Hamilton took two wickets each for Australia but could not prevent the loss.


Earlier, Australia, who had batted first, had scored 105 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted overs. Caoimhe Bray scored 36 and Ella Briscoe scored 27 runs not out.


Ashleigh van Wyk, who bowled just 3 overs for South Africa, took four wickets and conceded merely 17 runs.


South Africa will now face the winner of the second semi-final between India and England in the final on Sunday.
