KATHMANDU, Oct 7: Police have detained two individuals from Kalanki in possession of Rs 1.9 million on Monday.


Acting on a tip-off that a suspicious financial transaction was taking place in Kalanki, a team of officials from the District Police Range (DPR), Kathmandu arrested Sabitri Oli, 35, of Bigu Rural Municipality-4, Dolakha, in possession of Rs 1.5 million at 11.30 am on Monday from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, Kalanki.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Nabaraj Adhikari, the spokesperson for the DPR, Oli revealed during a preliminary inquiry that the amount belongs to an Indian citizen. She claimed that she has been working in the Indian citizen’s office in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-23, New Road, since last year.


“When we went to inspect the office that she claimed she was working at, we found her brother Suresh Oli, 25, in possession of another Rs 400,000,” SP Adhikari informed Republica, “He has also been detained for further investigation.”


The DPR has seized a total of Rs 1.9 million from the duo, in addition to five bank slips and a mobile phone. SP Adhikari revealed that the source of the amount is still undisclosed and an investigation into the matter is underway.
