Two arrested for swindling Rs 600,000 by posing as police DSP

Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly defrauding Rs 600,000 by falsely claiming to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and promising to settle a legal case.

KATHMANDU, June 12: Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly defrauding Rs 600,000 by falsely claiming to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and promising to settle a legal case.



The arrested have been identified as Gyan Bahadur Lama,45, (alias Gyanu Tamang) of Chauri Deurali-8, Kavrepalanchok, and Rewati Ojha,42, of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Sunsari.

Based on a complaint stating that they cheated money under the pretense of settling a case of a person held in police custody, an investigation led to their arrest.


According to the police, the Kathmandu District Court has granted a five-day extension for further investigation. Authorities said that further inquiries are underway against the two for fraud.
