"We have been investigating about the alleged transfer of the patients to private centers," said Dr Deepak Mahara, director at the TUTH, adding that the hospital administration has taken the allegation of the transfer of the patients seriously.Victims of the Ramche road accident, who were taken to the TUTH, were later transferred to the private centers.
Director Mahara claimed that the hospital has not referred any patients to the private centers. According to Mahara, transport entrepreneurs might have taken the patients out of the hospital on their own.
"Our doctors have not referred any of the patients to private centers, "claimed Dr Mahara. He said that the hospital has been interrogating the officials at the hospital's emergency section. Some of the patients, who were sent for CT-scan and X-ray, were found to have been transferred to private hospitals.
Director Mahara conceded that some of the hospital staffers working in the hospital's emergency department might be involved in the transfer of the patients.
The hospital administration had taken action against the staffers in the past for transferring patients to private centers for commission. Private hospitals lure staffers working in the government hospital by offering hefty commissions for referring patients to their care.
