Snowfall shuts schools in Northern Gorkha

GORKHA, Jan 4: Snowfall and the subsequent freezing cold in northern part of the district has brought life to a stand still. Most of the residents, who are earthquake victims and live in huts and tents, have remained indoors. Due to the extreme cold, schools have shut down stating that they won't open until weather conditions improve.

GORKHA, Jan 4: Snowfall and the subsequent freezing cold in northern part of the district has brought life to a stand still. Most of the residents, who are earthquake victims and live in huts and tents, have remained indoors. Due to the extreme cold, schools have shut down stating that they won't open until weather conditions improve.

Settlements in Kerauja, Laprak, Gumda, Uhiya, Samagaun, Bihi, Prok and Lho, among others, were covered by thick snow on Sunday and Monday. Sanjay Dhakal, a teacher from Kerauja, informed that it was impossible to operate schools during such cold stating the extreme weather conditions would directly affect health of the children. “Until after noon adults are also remaining indoors. In such situation, we cannot even think about operating schools and conducting academic activities.”
