KATHMANDU, Oct 25: After initially rejecting a writ petition regarding the donation of a plot of land by entrepreneur Min Bahadur Gurung to the CPN-UML for the construction of the party’s office building, the Supreme Court administration registered the lawsuit on Wednesday following a review of its own decision.
Earlier, SC Registrar Bhadrakali Pokhrel had dismissed the petition filed by advocate Gyan Basnet on grounds that there was no meaningful relationship between the UML’s decision to accept donations and any irregularities in it.

However, a single bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha on Wednesday ordered the SC administration to register the case. The bench said that the decision on whether the petitioner can file the writ petition or not will be determined by the bench itself and directed the administration to register the writ petition. Following the order, the SC administration registered the case later the same day. The hearing has been fixed for Thursday, October 24.
Advocate Basnet recently filed the public interest litigation regarding the donation of 0.55 hectares of land to the UML by Gurung, the proprietor of Bhatbhateni Supermarket, who is embroiled in the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.
