KATHMANDU, Oct 24: The Nepali Congress (NC) has accused the supporters of the recently-arrested Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane of influencing the judicial process as well as the investigation into the cooperative fraud case by mobbing around various locations across the country and holding street demonstrations.

According to the NC, the RSP leaders and cadres are creating undue pressure on the judiciary by intimidating and panicking the judiciary.

Head of the Publicity Department of the party Min Bahadur Bishwakarma issued a statement on Wednesday claiming that the demonstration of RSP supporters on the streets of Pokhara is disrupting the personal freedom and harmony of the people across the nation and the local peace and security of Pokhara. The statement read, “The Nepali Congress expresses serious objection and condemns this type of activity.”

Stating that it is the duty of every citizen to assist in the investigation and judicial process conducted by the statutory bodies after being accused of any crime, the NC said that any political party should be more responsible in this regard.

Stating that the law is and should be equal for all, the NC mentioned in the statement that the activities being carried out in the name of the RSP have devalued and ridiculed the desire of the Nepali people to uphold the rule of law.

The statement read, “Our party is committed to the belief that regardless of the party, position or status of any person involved in any activity that is considered a crime according to the existing law, they should be investigated in the same manner and brought under the legal framework.”

The party has also appealed to all the political parties and their supporters to refrain from involvement in activities that undermine the judicial process. The statement read, “Since it is the duty of all of us to maintain the rule of law, to make the judicial process credible, and to keep the justice system free and fair, we sincerely appeal to all political parties, civil society and ordinary citizens to refrain from provocative and disorderly activities and to cooperate in the investigation and judicial process.”
