KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Though Dashain has formally entered the homes of Hindus from Saturday, the local goat market in Kathmandu has remained quite quiet this year as buyers have refrained from visiting the market owing to the fear of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The demand for goats has remained low with supplies dwindling for the year, according to the traders.

"The sales are low in comparison to the previous years. This place would be as crowded with people as a fish market. But now, this goat market is dreadfully quiet," one of the traders complained.

Despite the low sales at present, vendors are expecting the sales to increase as the festival unfolds over the next week or so.
