Pathibhara cable car supporters attacked, smeared with black soot

The controversy over the construction of a cable car in the Pathibhara region of Taplejung has intensified. On Sunday, a dissatisfied group attacked and smeared black soot on Padam Chenji Mabo, a supporter of the Pathibhara cable car project in Dharan.

ITAHARI, Feb 17: The controversy over the construction of a cable car in the Pathibhara region of Taplejung has intensified. On Sunday, a dissatisfied group attacked and smeared black soot on Padam Chenji Mabo, a supporter of the Pathibhara cable car project in Dharan.


A dissatisfied group from the ‘No Cable Car campaign targeted cable car supporter Mabo during a press conference held at HK Melody Hotel in Dharan-2. Mabo had come to the conference as the newly-elected vice-chairperson of Yakthung Chumlung.

The dissatisfied group has accused Mabo, a supporter of the cable car construction, of criticizing No Cable Car campaigners on social media. In response, the group manhandled him and smeared black soot on him as a form of protest, according to the leader of ‘No Cable Car’ campaign Amar Ijam.


Ijam stated, "Mabo has the right to hold a press conference, but the unruly behavior during the protest is wrong."


After the incident, Mabo expressed his support for the cause of identity and committed to speaking against the construction of the cable car in the future. He also stated that he would correct his previous statements. Police have announced that they will investigate based on Mabo's complaint.
