KATHMANDU, March 24: Madhav Prasad Chamlagai has been elected as the President of the Democratic Handicapped Association, the sister organization of the Nepali Congress.
The convention was held at the central office in Sanepa last Friday. Although voting took place on the same day, the vote counting was delayed. Following the instructions of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, the vote counting was conducted on Monday.

Chamlagai was elected as president with 351 votes. Three candidates competed for the position of president. The other two candidates, Bikash Thapa and Kalpana Khadka, received 88 and 13 votes, respectively. A total of 470 votes were cast in the general convention.
According to the statute, the Democratic Handicapped Association has a 51-member central committee with 39 members elected and 12 appointed. A 3-member directive committee was formed under the leadership of central member Madhu Acharya, with central members Madan Krishna Shrestha and Saraswati Bajiyam as members.
The National Democratic Handicapped Association, formed in 2063 (2006), held its first general convention after 18 years.
