Labor Department mandates minimum wage compliance

The government set the minimum monthly wage at Rs 17,300 effective from Shrawan 1, 2080 (July 17, 2023), applicable to all sectors except tea plantations. The daily minimum wage is Rs 668, while the minimum hourly rate stands at Rs 89.

KATHMANDU, March 24: The Department of Labor and Occupational Safety has directed all industries and enterprises to ensure workers receive the legally mandated minimum wage.


Citing complaints about businesses failing to pay the prescribed wages, the department has issued a notice emphasizing strict compliance.

For tea plantation workers, the minimum monthly wage is Rs 13,893, with a daily wage of Rs 500.
