DHORPATAN, March 24: Residents of Lamichaur in Baglung Municipality-8 have finally gained access to a reliable drinking water supply after 42 years. Despite being home to around 200 households, the area had been facing a severe water shortage for decades.
According to the Lamichaur Drinking Water Consumers’ Committee Chairperson Tikaram Thapa, the municipality conducted a technical survey before drilling underground to extract water. On March 14, a machine drilled approximately 170 meters into the ground to access water, with regular supply beginning on March 22.

The project was completed at a cost of Rs 2.6 million from the municipality and an additional Rs 300,000 contributed by local residents. Previously, the entire village relied on just three public taps, forcing residents to wait in long queues, often overnight, to collect water.
Local resident Bina Pariyar recalled having to wait up to eight hours to fill a single vessel of water. Similarly, 71-year-old Chandra Mani Gautam said that Lamichaur had been facing a water crisis since 1982, which worsened as the population grew.
With a stable water supply now in place, locals have expressed relief and optimism for improved living conditions.
