KATHMANDU, July 11: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has launched the disaster hotline number 1234 in all 77 districts to make disaster-related incident reporting, complaints, information sharing, and rescue services faster, easier, and more effective.
According to a press release issued by the ministry, the toll-free number 1149, which was previously operated from the central level, has been converted into 1234 and brought into operation.

An arrangement has been made under which calls made to 1234 from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts of the Kathmandu Valley will be handled by the National Emergency Operation Centre at Singha Durbar, while calls from the remaining 74 districts will be automatically routed to the district emergency operation centre of the respective district.
According to the MoHA, rescue operations, coordination, and service delivery are expected to become more effective as citizens can now directly contact their respective district operation centres for disaster-related information, problems, complaints, and suggestions.
The first Cabinet meeting of the incumbent government had adopted a policy of making the civil service result-oriented, accountable, and effective. In line with this policy, a system has been introduced to operate emergency operation centres in all districts round the clock.
The MoHA has urged citizens to follow official information and early warnings issued by the government during disasters and to call 1234 whenever necessary.
