Kathmandu District Police Range spokesperson SP Pawan Bhattarai said police rescued Ashwin Raut after he sustained severe burn injuries and rushed him to Bir Hospital for treatment.

According to hospital officials, more than 55 percent of Raut’s body has been burned, and his condition remains critical. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary police investigation suggests that Raut had a dispute with his son over an unspecified matter before taking the extreme step. Police said he set himself on fire at around 6:15 am after his wife and son had left the house. He reportedly went to the kitchen, poured oil over himself, and ignited the fire.
