KATHMANDU, Sept 25: In the first eight months of 2023, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) witnessed a remarkable surge in the number of air passengers, with more than 5.46 million travelers utilizing its services.
According to the airport’s data, a total of 5.46 million individuals embarked on air travel from January to August 2023. This period also saw a substantial volume of flights, with approximately 80,465 takeoffs and landings.
Pokhara airport served 0.9 million passengers in 2022
The TIA office said 2,850,958 passengers traveled through the airport during this period. Among them, the number of international travelers who arrived in Nepal stood at 1,290,675, while 1,560,283 departed from Nepal to various destinations worldwide. Over the span of nine months, there were approximately 20,030 international takeoffs and landings, with 10,015 departures and 10,015 arrivals.
Simultaneously, domestic air travel demonstrated its enduring popularity, with 2.69 million passengers traveling within Nepal during the same nine-month period. Among those passengers, 1,292,061 departed from Kathmandu to various destinations, while 1,317,132 arrived in Kathmandu from various locations across the country. Notably, there were approximately 60,435 domestic flights and landings within the eight-months of 2023 .
These statistics underscore the resilience and continued growth of air travel in Nepal, highlighting TIA’s pivotal role in connecting the nation to the global air network. As air travel continues to play a crucial role in both domestic and international connectivity, stakeholders in the aviation sector said they are actively working to meet the demands of passengers and ensure safe and efficient travel experiences for all.
