KATHMANDU, July 19: Nepal Bar Council (NBC) issued a notice to advocate Rudra Prasad Pokharel who offered to bribe a judge at Kathmandu District Court, to furnish clarification.

The audio of Advocate Pokharel offering a bribe to Judge Rajkumar Koirala was released about a month ago.

Shortly after the audio was released, NBC had initiated an investigation. The NBC published a seven-day notice in the name of advocate Pokharel and asked him to respond as asking for bribes is against the code of conduct.

However, Pokharel has remained out of contact since he refused to receive the notice. His office remains closed for the past several days, according to police. The NBC published a notice in a notice in Gorkhapatra Daily on Tuesday.

Before issuing the notice, a letter was also sent to Pokharel's home, office and old permanent address in Jhapa. A public notice was issued as the letter was returned after no one received it.

“This notice has been published in accordance with Rule 6930 of the Disciplinary Committee (Working Arrangements) Rules, 2058. You should submit the clarification within seven days from today's date. Else, you will be notified of the action that will be taken according to the law,” states a public notice.

Earlier, the audio of Advocate Pokharel offering a bribe to Judge Koirala to release the accused Tamang on bail in the ongoing case against the then President of Civil Cooperative Ichcha Raj Tamang in the Kathmandu District Court was released. Pokharel has been out of touch since the audio came to the public.
