KATHMANDU, Nov 28: Lawyers affiliated with the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) staged a protest outside the Supreme Court on Sunday, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana. Senior advocate Purnaman Shakya, advocate Anantaraj Luitel and advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha were also present in the protest.
On the occasion, advocate Shakya said that the NBA will continue its protests until the political parties impeach the chief justice. He said that the protests will only stop after Chief Justice Rana is impeached through the constitutional process.
NBA protests against appointment of judges
Although the chief justice is still the head of the judiciary, it is only on paper, Shakya said. He accused the Chief Justice Rana of delaying justice to the people, when no one is in his favor.
Similarly, advocate Anantaraj Luitel said that the appointment made in the judiciary should be done in a scientific manner. Stating that the judiciary has lost its credibility, he said that the protests of the NBA should be taken as the start of judicial reform.
Meanwhile, advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha said that Chief Justice Rana is the ‘pollution’ of the judiciary. Stating that the protests of lawyers have never been unsuccessful, Shrestha said that the ongoing protests will also be successful.
