Speaking at a program in Solukhumbu on Sunday, Sherpa warned that the three major political parties, UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, will have to meet former king Gyanendra Shah´s fate if ethnicity-based federalism is not ensured in the new constitution. [break]
"Ours is the biggest organization after the three political parties. We have 150 million indigenous people as members. We will make them (the three parties) meet Gyanendra´s fate if our demand is not met," Sherpa said, adding that a new constitution devoid of ethnicity-based federalism is out of imagination.
He also threatened to launch a separate political ethnic outfit and run a parallel government if their demand is not addressed in the new statute.
Asked about comments that NEFFIN is being financed by foreign donors, Sherpa said, "Nobody has any problem when the whole country is being run under the influence of foreigners. Yes, we have received grants, but not arms." Sherpa added.
