KATHMANDU, April 14: The government has made it mandatory for migrant Nepali workers who are employed in foreign countries after receiving labor permits through their own individual approach to fill a self-declaration form effective from Thursday.

Amending the 'directive for acquiring labor permits through individual process 2012' from the first day of 2079 BS, the government has implemented the provision. With cases related to illegal or undocumented migrant workers on the rise, the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has made the provision mandatory for the migrant workers concerned.

According to the DoFE, it has been receiving an increasing number of complaints for being cheated or being charged with excess service fees mainly from the workers going abroad on visit visas and acquiring labor permits through individual process. Such migrant workers now have to submit a photocopy of visa and authorized documents on conditions, salaries and perks issued by the foreign employers to the Nepali embassies of the countries concerned along with the self-declaration document.

Since mid-January this year, the government has been renewing the labor permit of migrant workers online.
