Maoists to question UML's 'duplicity' at top meeting

By
KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has decided to question the role by the CPN-UML, the second largest party in the ruling six-party coalition, a senior Maoist leader said Sunday. "We are seriously concerned over the opposition role played in recent times by CPN-UML leaders," said C P Gajurel, a central secretariat member of the CPN (Maoist). "We are raising the issue at the meeting of the High-level Political Coordination Committee on Monday." [break]

He said the decision was made at the party´s secretariat meeting Sunday.

Gajurel said Maoist leaders have taken the UML leaders´ remarks about the future of the government seriously. “Sometimes they back the NC´s stance and sometimes they publicly say the ruling coalition would soon collapse," said Gajurel. "Now we want to know whether they are ruling party leaders or the leaders of the opposition." He said the Maoists are asking the UML leaders to rectify their "duplicity".

The secretariat meeting also decided to take decision on unification with other communist factions like CPN (Unity Center-Masal) through Central Committee meeting next Sunday, and announce unification on Tuesday.

The Maoist leaders also discussed the row over appointment of priests at Pashupati Temple. "But the government itself is preparing to knock at the Supreme Court´s door challenging the court order as erroneous. We did not discuss the issue much," Gajurel said.

He said the decision of the court was erroneous because the resignation of the Bhattas [Indian priests] was already accepted and delay in appointing new priests would have affected the daily worship.
