Tea worth Rs 114 million exported to India

The Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative has 350 affiliated farmers and has invested more than Rs 130 million in the tea business.

JHAPA, Nov. 22: The Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative (NMC) organization has exported Nepal’s tea worth Rs 114.3 million to India. 


The cooperative organization generated the income by exporting 364,044 kilograms of tea.

Rabindra Pandey, the business chief of the NMC, said that the cooperative has emphasized on production of quality tea from its members, who are also farmers. “We buy the tea leaves from the farmers and prepare the tea,” Pandey added.


The NMC has run three tea processing factories in Suryodaya and Maijogmai in Ilam and Mechinagar in Jhapa. The NMC has 350 affiliated farmers and has invested more than Rs 130 million in the tea business.


Offering a direct job to 52 individuals, the organization has been producing ‘Black Tea’, ‘Orthodox Tea’ and ‘Green Tea’ with the NMC Brand.
