Mustang exported mountain goats worth over Rs 230 million this Dashain

MYAGDI, Oct 23: Chyangra, the mountain goat, worth over Rs 230 million has been exported to various districts from Mustang district for Dashain festival, it has been said. The mountain goats have been exported to various districts including Myagdi, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung and Kathmandu according to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre Mustang.

MYAGDI, Oct 23: Chyangra, the mountain goat, worth over Rs 230 million has been exported to various districts from Mustang district for Dashain festival, it has been said. The mountain goats have been exported to various districts including Myagdi, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung and Kathmandu according to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre Mustang.


At least 5,755 chyangras were exported for the festival this year, said the Centre's chief Rishiram Pokharel. "A health certificate has been issued for the export of 5,755 chyangras through the Jomsom border. Chyangras worth over Rs 230 million have been exported," he said.

Of the exported chyangras, 4,000 were reared by farmers of Mustang and the rest were brought from Dolpa and Mugu, he said. The mountain goat export took place from October 7 to 18.


There is a provision that animals can be transported from one district to another only after a health check. Rs 15 is paid for the health test of a chyangra. Traders reached the barns to buy chyangras.


Each chyangra fetched around Rs 40,000. According to the Centre, last year, 6,600 chyangras were exported from Mustang, 12,000 chyangras in 2078 BS, and around 25,000 in 2076 BS.
