The FMTC is bringing 1,500 goats and 300 mountain goats to the capital for the upcoming Dashain festival. The price for goats is set at Rs 670 per kg and at Rs 1,230 per kg for mountain goats. Spokesperson Neupane mentioned that a Rs 10 discount has been applied to the prices.

The FMTC stated that they are trading goats at a lower price this year as they have secured a more favorable rate. Last year, the FMTC had brought 1,659 goats to the capital, priced at Rs 680 per kg, and 542 mountain goats, priced at Rs 1,260 per kg. As per the FMTC, as many as 50,000 goats are traded in the Kathmandu valley for Dashain every year.

Officials from the FMTC expressed confidence that the number of goats traded will meet the needs of the valley. “We hope this number will fulfill the demand through Dashain’s Ashtami and Nawami,” Spokesperson Neupane said.

The government has allocated a budget of Rs 40 million for the purchase of goats and mountain goats for this year’s Dashain. Every year, the FMTC brings goats from Hetauda, Tulsipur, and Nawalpur; and mountain goats from Mustang. They are sold from its premises in Thapathali.
