Employer 'exploits' 81 workers in Malaysia

By
BIRGUNJ: Eighty-one Nepali workers exploited by a Malaysian company have asked family members to arrange their safe return from Malaysia. [break]

They had gone to the booming South East Asian nation three months ago paying hefty amount to Khumbu Overseas in Chakrapath, Kathamandu to work in Minyak company based in Johar Bahru of Malaysia.

The workers have complained that the employer company flouted the agreement leaving them in trouble with lower amount of salary and minimum working hours per week.

They said living in the expensive city of Johar Bahru has been very difficult with the minimum earning which is insufficient to manage daily square meal given the soaring commodity prices.

“We are in trouble as our employer company has exploited us giving far lower salary and working hours, than agreed in the job contract,’’ writing a letter to family, Dinesh Subedi, of Kawatigoth of Bara, said. “Malaysia based Nepali mission also didn’t take our problems seriously.’’

He also informed that the company provided them only eight hours to work in ten days. His other colleagues also expressed the same plight in their letters to the families.

Each of the duped workers had paid Rs 80,000 to the manpower agency which processed their recruitment in Malaysia. The worried family members of the swindled workers have asked the media persons to take initiation for rescuing them.
