KATHMANDU, March 6: Ramgram Municipality of Nawalparasi, the oldest municipality in the district, lacks proper waste management system.
Due to the lack of proper arrangement of dumping sites for waste management, the local residents have been affected by the foul smell of garbage. The locals are complaining that they are facing trouble when the garbage is dumped on the river banks which leads to the pollution of water, land and air. The local farmers have also been affected by dumping garbage directly on the arable land.

Till now, no dumping site has been built in this municipality for waste management. The garbage that is released daily is also spreading on the private land near the river banks in ward-1 of Ramgram Municipality. As the municipality has not found a proper alternative for waste management, the garbage is being discharged directly into the river causing a rise in pollution.
Not only has the stench increased due to the daily accumulation of garbage, the harmful waste from hospitals including syringes used during the health treatment, the carcass of cows, bulls, dogs, cats and all kinds of waste products pose serious risk for human health.
The municipality is dumping garbage without seeking other alternatives. Stakeholders have been complaining that this has had negative impact on their health as well on the environment. The locals allege that the representatives of their area are not able to manage the city's waste.
