KATHMANDU, August 16: The locals of Banchare Danda again stopped the vehicles carrying garbage from the Kathmandu Valley to the landfill site early this morning. Garbage trucks have reached Sisdol. Naveen Manandhar, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), said that police will be mobilized from Nuwakot today as well to dispose of the garbage.
On the other hand, Bishnu Tamang, chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), Dhunibeshi Municipality-1, Dhading, said that anything can happen if the garbage trucks are forcibly taken to Banchare Danda. He said, “The garbage carrying vehicles are kept at Sisdol at present. It is said that police and administration will bring the garbage today as well. If the police bring the garbage forcefully, anything can happen. We, the locals, are ready with slingshots.”

He said that the people of Banchare Danda have been suffering from garbage for 17 years because the problem of garbage should be ended forever.
On Monday, 250 policemen from three districts namely Kathmandu, Dhading and Nuwakot were mobilized and garbage loaded on 203 trucks was disposed of. The local leaders of the ruling parties have also united with the locals in the movement to stop the garbage from being disposed of at Banchare Danda landfill site.
