KATHMANDU, June 7: Police were ordered to intervene after the locals of Banchare Danda protested against the dumping of garbage and tried to stop the vehicles carrying garbage to be dumped at the Banchare Danda landfill site today. Only on Monday evening, an agreement was reached to dump the Kathmandu Valley’s waste at the new landfill site. However, some locals were against the idea of garbage being dumped at the landfill.
The locals had been protesting since morning at a place called Aletar between Sisdol and Banchare Danda. According to a police officer mobilized at Banchare Danda, work is underway to remove the heaps of garbage by using a dozer. Garbage is yet to be dumped at the landfill site.

Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force teams are working together to clear the obstruction, a police officer informed Republica. A team including Deputy Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra of Police Circle Balaju has also reached Banchare Danda.
