KATHMANDU, April 29: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has collected Rs 6.50 billion revenue till April 13 of the current Fiscal Year (FY). The revenue collected is 62.33 percent of the target.
Dhurba Kafle, Head of KMC Revenue Department, informed Republica that Rs 5.97 billion revenue was collected during corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. According to him, in the same period of the current financial year, it is Rs 1.44 billion more than in the last financial year.
KMC had set a target of revenue collection of around Rs 10.41 billion for the current year. Last year, the target was Rs 9.87 billion.

For the current FY, KMC has received the highest amount of Rs 794.36 million from property tax so far. Although tax collection has not been achieved as expected due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the past three years, there will be no problem in reaching the target in the current year, according to the KMC Revenue Department.
KMC has been collecting revenue under 36 headings including property, home maintenance, business, advertising, entertainment, land, value added and vehicle tax.
Revenue Department Head Kafle says that although there were some problems in revenue collection due to Covis -19 pandemic in the past years, if the revenue collection is done this year, there will be no problem in reaching the target.
This year the external grant amount for KMC is less. The department said that there is no problem in internal revenue collection. Recently, it is said that with KMC being more strict for revenue collection, it has become easier to recover the arrears which have not been raised for a long time.
KMC has already issued the 'House Rent Arrangement Guideline 2079' on February 15. According to the guidelines, any house owner should give the notice to the ward office within seven days about renting or vacating the house.
There is provision in the guidelines that one copy of the written contract should be kept by the concerned ward office, one copy by the landlord and one copy by the tenant. The contract should mention the amount to be paid, the date to be paid, the period of maintenance and the extension of the period.
