Injury hit Police want players from other clubs against Mohun Bagan

KATHMANDU, May 6: Nepal Police Club has requested at least five players from other teams for their friendly match against I-League side McDowells Mohun Bagan on 12th May at the Dasharath Stadium.



The Police request was announced by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa during a press conference on Sunday to confirm the arrival of the Indian top flight team for a friendly in the capital. [break]



"As some of the Police players are injured, coach Birat Krishna Shrestha demanded for some players from other clubs to make the match more competitive," Thapa said. "At least five star players from other clubs will feature in the match."



Thapa revealed the names of five star players -- Santosh Sahukhala, Bharat Khawas, Sandeep Rai, Biraj Maharjan and Kiran Chemjong and added a couple of other players might also be included.



Forward Sahukhala, defenders Maharjan and Rai and goalkeeper Chemjong belong to Three Star Club while forward Khawas is yet to join any team. All of them are Nepal´s international players.



Thapa made such announcement in the presence of officials from United Spirit Private Limited Nepal, the sponsor of the team in Nepal. According to Thapa, McDowells initiated moves to bring the I-League side to Nepal as part of its social corporate responsibility.



Police is the domestic league champion as well as the winner of recently concluded British Gorkha Cup. Currently Police is participating in the AFC President´s Cup as the National League Champion of Nepal.



Police is hit by injury of some of its key players like skipper Jumanu Rai, Deependra Paudel, Suraj BK and others. Meanwhile, Khawas also left the team at the start of the new season.



Kolkata based Mohun Bagan was established in 1889 and is one of the most successful team of India. It finished fourth in the current I-League season.



"We are discussing with United Spirits to conduct a friendly each year with Mohun Bagan and the discussion so far has been fruitful," Thapa said adding that ANFA was also discussing possible friendly matches in mid-western and far western regions.



Thapa also assured Mohun Bagan would come up with full strength team. The gate fee for the match to be played under floodlights will cost Rs 200 and Rs 500.



According to Thapa, the amount raised from the tournament will be distributed into two halves among the players and ANFA after deducting management price.
