Some inmates returned to the prison on their own, while others were arrested by police and sent back to custody. However, 150 male inmates and 30 female inmates are still absconding, Aryal said. The prison administration had earlier issued a public notice urging those who had taken control of the prison and fled to return voluntarily within the stipulated time.

Before the jailbreak, Nawalparasi Prison housed 575 inmates, including 41 foreign nationals (Indian citizens). Among the Indian inmates, three have been rearrested and returned to the prison, while 38 remain on the run.

Police said search operations are ongoing to locate the escaped prisoners. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Information Officer at the District Police Office, Nawalparasi, Biradatta Pant, said efforts to track down the fugitives are continuing.
