KATHMANDU, OCT 16: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has asked the paragliding companies across the country to immediately stop the adventure sport for the time being, after a paragliding athlete died in the course of competing in the 9th National Games underway in Pokhara on Sunday.


Nisim Thapa, an official of Nepal Army who was participating in the ongoing 9th National Games in Pokhara, died Sunday morning while contesting in the event. He died when the glider belonging to Blue Sky Company fell from the sky to the ground in Sarangkot while competing in the National Games.

Jagannath Niraula, spokesperson for the CAAN, said they have suspended paragliding until further notice. According to him, the government authority has taken the decision until more safety and improved management will be ensured for the adventure game.   


Thapa, after flying from Sarangkot, fell from a height of 100 meters and was sent to Metro City Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
