KATHMANDU, March 5: Dr Chandra Kant (CK) Raut-led Janamat Party (JP) and Resham Chaudhary, patron of Nagrik Unmukti Party (NUP), have been regularly sitting together after they decided on the unification of their parties.
On February 12, Chaudhary himself mentioned that the party unification with JP is confirmed and the good news of the unification would be heard soon.
At that time, Chaudhary had said, “The foundation for unity is almost ready. The unification is not that difficult, as we have similar ideologies. Both of us (Raut and Chaudhary) are leaders who have risen from the movement from the streets. We are leaders who have been jailed for the sake of the people. Therefore, the foundation for unity is ready. The good news of the unification will be heard soon.”
Regarding this, JP spokesperson Dr Sharad Singh Yadav told Republica on Tuesday, “Unity is happening among us soon. There are a series of dialogues taking place at the top leadership level. It is not possible to specify the exact time. However, the unity will take place soon.”
Spokesperson Yadav said, “It is a matter of unity between two parties, which may take some time. This is not just a unification but also a message that identity-based groups need to come together. It is about marginalized people and those deprived of their rights coming together. Party unity will happen soon.”

According to a leader, the issue of who will lead between Resham and Raut is yet to be decided. Apart from this, the organizational and other technical matters have been finalized. said the leader, adding, “Unity is now almost certain. If things proceed directly, the unity will be declared within a month or a month and a half.”
Ranjita opposes party unification
Despite maintaining continuous dialogue between NUP patron Chaudhary and JP chair Raut, NUP Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha is opposed to unity.
She told Republica, “I have seen in the media that there will be a unity between our party and the party of honorable CK Raut. I have also read in the media that the process for unity is moving forward. But I have no knowledge about this matter.”
When asked about whether the party's patron Chaudhary had confirmed the unity with the chairman of JP, she replied, “Regarding this matter, I had just spoken with the chairman of JP, CK Raut, on Tuesday. He didn’t mention anything like that. There is no unity happening.”
Shrestha mentioned that Resham had not told her anything about this matter. However, earlier, during an interview with Republica, Resham had stated that he would discuss the party's unification with party chair Ranjita.
At that time, Ranjita was abroad. However, she said that she did not know anything about this. She said, “He did not tell me anything about this.”
Upon being asked about any dialogue between you and Resham, she responded, “No, he has not told me anything about this.”
The relationship between Resham and Ranjita has recently become strained again. They are husband and wife.
They have had disputes between them previously, particularly concerning party leadership. Due to the rift, the party had even lost the Chief Minister’s position in the Sudurpaschim Province.
At that time, with the coordination of other party leaders, there had been some reconciliation between them. However, it is said that their relationship has once again soured following the talks of NUP-JP unification.
