KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Following weeks-long stalemate over the party unification process, the chiefs of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have decided to resume the meeting of the party unification coordination committee to expedite the unification process.
UML Chairman K P Oli and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a meeting in Lalitpur on Thursday to discuss the party unification process. According to sources, the two leaders reviewed the results of the National Assembly elections, formation of provincial governments and party unification. Amid speculations over the party unification process reaching nowhere, Oli and Dahal held an hour-long one-on-one meeting to resume the stalled talks.

“The two leaders have decided to resume the meeting of the party unification coordination committee,” said Oli's press coordinator Chetan Adhikari.
Though the secretariat of Maoist chief Dahal said that the meeting of the party unification coordination meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, a source close to Oli claimed that the meeting has not been fixed yet.
“The meeting of the unification coordination committee will discuss the upcoming tasks,” Dahal's secretariat said in a statement.
The committee had remained idle for weeks following differences over party leadership and ideological issues between the two parties.
Despite announcing last November to unify the two parties within a few months, the two parties are still struggling to finalize various issues related to the unification process.
