KATHMANDU, April 8: Gopal Krishna Ghimire has been elected the new president of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) through an election held earlier this week. The vote counting which ended today saw candidate Ghimire representing the ruling coalition win the elections with 4,433 votes. His rival candidate Bishnumani Adhikari received only 2,482 votes.
Meanwhile, Anjita Khanal has been elected the General Secretary of NBA after receiving 3,682 votes, while another candidate for the same post Kedar Prasad Koirala received 2,989 votes.
Contempt of court case filed against NBA President Ghimire
Members of Ghimire’s panel have also emerged victorious in other posts of the NBA. Ghimire had contested in the 26th Central Working Committee election as a candidate from the Greater Democratic Progressive Inclusive and Profession Legal Practitioner group.
Ghimire resigned from the post of Central Election Committee Coordinator of the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) to contest in the NBA election. Ghimire is also a former chairman of the Democratic Lawyers Association.
