KATHMANDU, March 16: Arjun Kulung Rai of Nepal on Saturday emerged as the champion of the fifth edition of the Manjushree Trail Race (MTR), one of Nepal’s most renowned long-distance racing events on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
The course took runners through seven major hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley: Jamacho, Shivapuri, Nagarkot, Phulchowki, Champadevi, Bhasmasur, and Chandragiri.
According to the organisers, Arjun clinched victory in the 100-mile race, the main event of the MTR, with an impressive time of 26 hours, 29 minutes, and 25 seconds. Milan Kulung Rai secured second place with a time of 28:15:25.3, while Sher Tharu finished third in 28:47:06.2.

The top three position holders were awarded cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 40,000, and Rs 20,000 respectively.
In the 100 km race, Bishal Rai claimed the top spot with a time of 13:29:04, reads a statement issued by the event’s organisers. Gopal Tamang followed closely in second place with 13:39:07, and Niroj Bhatta finished third with 14:12:35.
In the women’s 100 km race, Rasila Tamang of Nepal finished first in 17:58:05, while Chhoki Sherpa came second in 18:15:05, and Fleur Moutajwale secured third place in 20:43:05. The top three finishers in the 100 km race received prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 15,000, respectively.
The 50 km men’s race saw Mankumar Rokka Magar finish first with a time of 06:42:25, followed by Lokendra Rai in 06:46:38 and Dhir Bahadur Budha in 06:59:59. In the women’s 50 km race, Priya Rai claimed victory with a time of 07:46:05, while Kalpana Budha finished second in 08:16:06, and Rajya Lakshmi Rawal secured the third position in 08:40:52.
