LALITPUR, Nov 5: Nepali Congress General Secretary Udaya Shumsher Rana has warned that the party will strongly resist any attempt by the government to take retaliatory action against party president Gagan Kumar Thapa or arrest him.
Speaking at a sanitation and flower-planting programme organised in Bajrabarahi, Lalitpur, on Thursday, Rana claimed that the government was attempting to arrest Thapa based on a statement given by middleman Inam Sapkota.

He alleged that Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki had been pressured to arrest Thapa illegally and was removed from his post after refusing to comply. Rana also said political interference was increasing in the police, media and judiciary.
Accusing the prime minister of seeking to adopt an authoritarian approach, Rana called on all political forces and citizens to unite in defence of democracy, the rule of law and citizens’ rights.
“If the government takes any wrongful action against party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, the Nepali Congress will not remain a silent spectator,” he said. “We will firmly resist any such move.”
