KATHMANDU, March 16: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar and nine other police officers will receive mandatory retirement on Monday.
According to the existing police regulations, the 30-year service period requirement has led to Kunwar and the nine officers to retire on March 17 (tomorrow).

Along with Kunwar, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Tek Prasad Rai, Buddhi Raj Gurung, Kuber Kadayat, Durga Singh, and Janak Raj Bhattarai will retire from service after serving for 30 years.
The Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) Ganesh Chand, Bhola Rawal, and Dhruva Raj Raut are also set to receive mandatory retirement on the same day, March 17. They joined the police service on March 19, 1995. A large number of senior officials, including AIGs and DIGs from this same batch, have already retired due to age limits.
After the police officer holding the senior position retires, competition among senior officers for promotions to the positions of IGP, AIG, and DIG takes place. AIGs Deepak Thapa, Sudip Giri, and Tekbahadur Tamang are now in a race for the IGP position.
