New IGP Kunwar presented with insignia

KATHMANDU, March 26: Newly-appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, has been conferred with the insignia of the police chief. Home Secretary Binod Prakash Singh today presented Kunwar with the IGP's insignia amidst a programme at the ministry.

KATHMANDU, March 26: Newly-appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, has been conferred with the insignia of the police chief. Home Secretary Binod Prakash Singh today presented Kunwar with the IGP's insignia amidst a programme at the ministry. 


On the occasion, the home secretary said the nation always needs a disciplined and professional police institution with a clean image. 


“Only the police with such traits will meet the institutional requirement of the time,” said Singh.  According to him, technology-based cases of offenses are increasing in the society and the police administration needs self-confidence and commitment to combat it.

Underlining the need of adopting a zero tolerance against indiscipline, professional negligence and corrupt activities, he advised the police administration to deliver acts of reforms in a noticeable way. 


"The police administration still awaits reforms at a full scale," he said.


Newly-appointed IGP Kunwar said that he was wholeheartedly committed to strengthening the police administration. He said that the administration would not become strong by hiding weaknesses. 


The new police chief promised to work relentlessly in crime prevention and investigation. He said that the police administration would promote the culture of coordination and cooperation with the Nepalese Army, the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department to strengthen the internal security and make the citizens feel the rule of law. 


He took time to announce that he would never compromise with any force and anyone else in the efforts meant for combating crime and criminal attitude. The Council of Ministers on Friday appointed Kunwar as the Chief of Nepal Police.
