KATHMANDU: Garden of Dreams is situated in the midst of Kathmandu city. It was built by the late Field Marshal Kaiser Shumsher Rana in the early 1920s, with the help of Kishor Narsingh, an architect who designed and constructed Singha Durbar. Garden of Dreams was earlier known as the ‘Garden of Six Seasons’.
It is designed in the famous Edwardian style, with exquisite pavilions, fountains, pond, garden furniture, verandas, arches, railings, bird houses and the beautifully organized garden itself.
Enticing beauty of Dhakeri botanical garden
After decades of neglect resulting in crumbling pavilions, overgrown paths and loss of the subtropical flora, restorations were undertaken between 2000 to 2007 with support of the Austrian Development Aid (Austrian Government) in collaboration with Nepal’s Ministry of Education.
Today, the garden is a tourist attraction and a place to escape from the city’s busy and dusty environment. It is a hangout for people of all ages who want to get away from the hustle and bustle.
