Established by the diploma holders of FTII, Graftii Nepal was conceptualized with the aim to contribute to the Nepali film industry. More than 40 Nepali nationals have graduated from Pune in the last 40 years and they have been involved in various fields of the film industry. Some famous names include actor Tika Pahadi and filmmakers Laxmi Nath Sharma and Shambhu Pradhan.
Addressing the audience, Baikuntha Man Maskey, the chairman of the organization said, “Graftii Nepal hopes to create a constructive environment for Nepali filmmakers. We will be providing consultancy services for filmmakers including regular screening of internationally acclaimed films.”
Guest speakers veteran filmmakers Neer Shah and Yadav Kharel appreciated the effort by the Nepali graduates of the FTII, Poone. Recalling his missed opportunity of studying at the institute, Shah said, “My application was denied twice, and to be honest I’m slightly envious of all those who have graduated from the coveted institution.”

The press meet was heated as the discussion shifted to the contribution by the veteran directors and technicians to the Nepali film industry. When asked by an audience member about the inability to produce substantial creative work or academic writing in the Nepali film industry despite having professionals with prestigious degrees, as FTII, the veterans chose to point the finger at others. Their defense was the conservative nature of Nepali society and the unnecessary pressure given by the producers.
