Four new museums in offing

KATHMANDU, June 6: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Saturday that the government plans to set up four new museums as symbols of various phases of the political history of the country and a reflection of Nepali culture and tradition.



Observing the Janajati Museum at Bhrikuti Mandap in the capital, the newly-elected prime minister said he plans to set up museums at Gokarna, the Narayanhity Palace Museum precincts, Bhrikuti Mandap exhibition grounds and in Nawalparasi district.



According to him, the Bhrikuti Mandap museum will reflect the identities of all the ethnic communities and groups, Gokarna museum will symbolize the people´s struggle for democracy, the new museum at Narayanhity will symbolize the monarchical period in Nepal, while the museum in Nawalparasi district will reflect Tharu culture.



He said that the government has issued a directive to the Ministry of Finance in this regard. Prime Minister Nepal also went to Gokarna on Saturday to visit the Martyrs´ Park that is under construction there.



Six days after he was elected prime minister, Nepal laid the foundation stone for a republic monument at Ratna Park on May 29. The prime minister has directed the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works that the monument should be taller than Dharahara tower.
