KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev of Nepal has extended his best wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of the Great King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha, the first monarch of unified Nepal.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday, former King Shah said, “We call it Heaven, Our country Nepal, We Nepalis. We shout it with a sense of pride ‘Independent, Sovereign and Proud Nepalis’. We are granted this present due to nationalist ideology of the late King and the bravery of Nepalis.”

“In the present situation, where the country is moving toward instability, there is a need for unity among the people and the divine counsels of the late king now more than ever. Every Nepali has felt the country becoming a playing ground for outsiders. The main goal of democracy is to maintain the pride of the country and to provide happiness to the people.
Furthermore, the former king maintained that as Nepalis , we love our land, soil and our own culture and traditions. The Himalayan, the hilly and the Terai people have remained united to preserve our identity. The former King stressed the need for keeping our love for the nation pure and decorating the nation as a whole.
