KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a second corruption case against Mohan Bahadur Basnet, the mayor of Kathmandu’s Nagarjun Municipality.
The CIAA filed the case against him in the Special Court on Sunday, stating that he embezzled a total of Rs 86.9 million.
The CIAA said they initiated the investigation after receiving a complaint that Basnet had committed corruption by acquiring illegal assets through acts contrary to his official duties.

The CIAA has stated in the chargesheet that Basnet failed to reveal the source of Rs 199.574 million he owns out of his total assets worth Rs 286.561 million
The CIAA has also filed a case against his wife Urmila Basnet, demanding confiscation of assets with undisclosed sources.
The CIAA had previously filed a case against Mayor Basnet on charge of corruption and money laundering on December 29.
Mayor Basnet was elected from the Nepali Congress. He is currently suspended after being charged with corruption.
