Even in the month of July, the Biratnagar Customs Office collected only 81.57 percent of the revenue target. For the month of July, the Biratnagar Customs Office had collected only Rs 2.85 billion out of the target of Rs 3.49 billion. The revenue collected in July and August of the current fiscal year is less than the revenue collected in the same months of the previous fiscal year.
In the month of July of the previous fiscal year 2022/23, the Biratnagar Customs Office collected revenue of Rs 2.95 billion. Similarly, in the month of August, Rs 3.11 billion was collected in revenue.
Parshuram Dahal, information officer of Biratnagar Customs Office, said that the main reason for the decline in revenue collection by the Biratnagar Customs Office is the slowdown in economic activities within the country. He said that the international price hikes of goods have led to decreased consumption in Nepal, resulting in lower market demand and declining imports. Furthermore, Dahal also said that some significant importers who previously used the Biratnagar border crossing have shifted to other border points, affecting international trade through the Biratnagar customs office.
