Birgunj Customs Office fails to meet revenue target, collects Rs 80.05 billion in six months

BIRGUNJ (Parsa), Jan 20: The Birgunj Customs Office has failed to meet its revenue collection target. In the first six months of the current fiscal year, the customs office collected only Rs 80.05 billion in revenue.


The Department of Customs set a revenue collection target of Rs 104.18 billion for the Birgunj Customs Office for the first six months of the current fiscal year.

Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane reported an improving trend in revenue collection due to increased imports of vehicles and petroleum products. “The rise in vehicle and petroleum imports has significantly boosted revenue collection,” he said. “Revenue collection reached its highest level in Poush (mid-December to mid-January) since Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August).”


The Birgunj Customs Office generated Rs 12.15 billion in revenue in Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) of the current fiscal year. It collected Rs 13.42 billion in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) and Rs 13.47 billion in Ashoj (mid-September to mid-October). In Kartik (mid-October to mid-November), the office raised Rs 11.10 billion, while the revenue in Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December) increased to Rs 14.40 billion. 


In Poush, the office achieved its highest revenue collection of the fiscal year, reaching Rs. 15.47 billion. Over the first six months, the office accomplished 36.56 percent of its total annual revenue target.


The Department of Customs had set an annual revenue collection target of Rs 218.95 billion for the office. Similarly, the Sirsiya Inland Dry Port Customs Office achieved 38.87 percent of its total annual revenue target by collecting Rs 23.34 billion in revenue during the first six months of the current fiscal year.
