KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Bibeksheel Sajha Party on Sunday expressed solidarity with the agitation staged by the sugarcane farmers demanding the outstanding payment from the sugar factories for their produce used as raw material for sugar.
Blaming the government for this sorry state where the farmers have been forced to come to the capital city to beg for the payment for their hard labor, the newly-formed party, after the merger of Sajha Party and Bibeksheel Nepali Dal, urged one and all to express their solidarity with the farmers.

“It’s very disappointing that the government is indifferent to implementing its agreement with the farmers which was made last year,” a press statement released by the party reads.
It is noted that the Ministry for Industry, Commerce and Supplies had given its word to the farmers that their dues would be paid within a month.
The party also stated that the minimum support price for all agricultural produce should be determined so as to benefit the farmers. “The government should be responsible for fixing the support price and ensuring the buying and selling of agricultural products.”
The party asked the government to address the concerns of the agitating farmers and act responsibly so that no farmer will have to take to the streets to get their voices heard in the days to come.
